A traditional Shiite procession in honor of Fatima Al Zahra's suffering and the repression the Shiite have endured through history makes it's way through the Iraqi section of Damascus, Syria, on the anniversary of her death Friday, July 11, 2003. Zahra was the daughter of the Prophet Muhammed and the wife of Imam Ali. Imam Ali was the first cousin of Muhammed and the first leader of the Shiite. According to legend, Ali was chosen by Muhammed to lead all Muslims, but, after Muhammed died, was opposed by differing factions. Some of these factions attacked Zahra's house, breaking the door down, which broke her ribs and caused her to have a miscarriage. After this they burned the door down.
