A shopkeeper displays paintings of Jesus, the Virgin Mary and John the Baptist from what he said was the Byzantine era in his clothing and artifacts shop near the Omayyad Mosque in Old Damascus, Syria on July 11, 2003. He started asking $1000 for the smaller Virgin Mary painting and had come down to $600 when the photographer left with just pictures.
